ABOUT ME

I have been solving complex everyday problems for people who have a disability since 2010. For example, I have…

  • helped a young many to play video games with just his mouth and one finger
  • consulted with a child and his school music teacher to help him to play the violin for longer
  • helped another young person to control their TV, lights, air conditioner and more with the twitch of a toe.

I’ve presented at seminars, conferences, workshops and university classes about a range of accessibility topics including assistive technology for children, facilitating access to computers and other high tech devices, manual handling and more.

When not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband and baby daughter, cooking gourmet food, playing computer games and watching movies and anime with friends.

I currently work in the assistive technology field at a great organisation called LifeTec Australia.

MY HISTORY

I trained as an occupational therapist (OT) at the University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia). Since graduating at the end of 2009, I’ve completed ongoing training around Australia and the rest of the world.

Before and for a little while during my practice as an OT, I also worked as a carer and support person for adults with cerebral palsy. This means that I have a bit more of a realistic idea about what it can take for people to move through day to day life and to get things to work for them.

In my OT role, I have worked with children as young as two months to adults as old as 98, with mild to very profound disability. My expertise has been acknowledged by many repeat referrals from happy clients as well as invitations to present at professional events.

MY MISSION

I believe that everyone should have the chance to do the things that matter to them, to try out and explore new fields, and to put their own mark on the world. That includes people who have even really big physical challenges!

I want to help people who have a disability to find ways around their challenges with the help of technology, creativity and some encouragement and support from those around them.
